With improvisation at its core, Mega Mass generates a prodigious energy, hardly conceivable for a bass-less trio. This absence provides the three protagonists with exceptional rhythmic, harmonic, and textural flexibility, which they skillfully deploy to navigate through different musical landscapes.
Drawing inspiration almost inevitably from the Paul Motian trio, these rising musicians of the Berlin scene also delve into a wide range of aesthetics, encompassing influences from Arvo Pärt to Nirvana.

It only takes a few seconds for the spell to take effect: a wild breath that you inhale in one go. The trio’s chiaroscuro, the darkness of the electric guitar lines, the wrenching sound of Fabian Willmann’s saxophone – reminiscent at times of the cries of the great Archie Shepp – and the contrast of certain almost romantic melodies. A raw energy, a dense sound at the antipodes of aseptic jazz, not afraid of the « dirty », as we say today. »
